Mr. Winship has over 25 years of investment management experience. He has extensive knowledge and expertise in investment management, portfolio construction, corporate finance, investment research, securities analysis, real estate investment and lending, business valuation, corporate governance, mergers, acquisitions, and investment banking.
Mr. Winship is also the Founder and President of Pacific Point Capital, LLC, an investment management firm located in San Diego, California. Prior to founding Pacific Point, he was a principal, senior managing director, and investment committee member of Relational Investors, LLC (“Relational”). Relational was a pioneer in the activist investing arena and became one of the country’s premier activist firms with over $6.0 billion under management. From its founding in 1996 until its closing in 2015, Relational invested over $35 billion in more than 150 investment projects and significantly outperformed the S&P 500 over the life of the fund. As an investment committee member and senior member of Relational’s investment team, Mr. Winship was involved and managed all aspects of Relational’s investment strategy. He was responsible for and led the investment teams responsible for idea generation, stock selection, and investment strategy.
Mr. Winship currently serves on the board of Bunge Limited (NYSE:BG) where he is the Chairman of the Audit Committee and the Board of C.H. Robinson Worldwide, Inc. (NASDAQ:CHRW) where he is the Chairman of the Capital Allocation and Planning Committee. Mr. Winship previously served on the board of CoreLogic, Inc. (NYSE:CLGX), Esterline Technologies (NYSE:ESL), and following the financial crisis, served as Relational’s board observer for the recapitalization of Guaranty Bank (NASDAQ:GBNK). Mr. Winship is on the Board of Advisors of the Corporate Governance Institute at San Diego State University Fowler College of Business.
Mr. Winship received his undergraduate degree in finance, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Arizona and his MBA degree from the University of California, Los Angeles – The Anderson School of Management.
He is a Certified Public Accountant and holds the professional designation of Chartered Financial Analyst.
